Duplicate and Fraudulent Filings Delay Payments to Filipino WWII Vets

WASHINGTON D.C. – About 18,000 veterans are projected to be filing pension claims under the Filipino Veterans Equity Compensation Fund, but a Web site shows nearly double that number – or 32,795 applications – have been received by the Manila Regional Office of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as of Oct. 1, 2009, reports the Philippines News.  MORE


Malacanang Tuesday asked Public Works Secretary and Road Board chairman Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. and executive director Rodolfo Puno to shed light on their alleged hand in the misuse of P56.5 billion in road user’s tax after the Senate recommended the filing of plunder charges against them.

Deputy Presidential Spokeswoman Lorelei Fajardo said the two officials should submit themselves before a congressional investigation to “clear their names.” MORE

Estrada exposed, Arroyo scarred

Joseph “Erap” Estrada should get real. He should realize that he is not the redeemer of the Philippines or the Filipino nation. Heaven forbid!

He had his chance as president but he blew it, big time. He can turn to other ways of helping, if he so wishes. But his glossy love for the poor works only in the movies. People already know better, and people want change. Erap is not change, does not represent change. Absolutely not, because his avarice for power shows through his wristband, and his sense of true service seems, at best, false. MORE
