Columban Leader Reports on Visit to Pagadian

A brief report on visit by Fr Tommy Murphy, Columban Superior General, to the Philippines

“I met with Richard O’Brien the Singapore based Irish Ambassador to the Philippines in our Central House in Manila. He updated Michael McGuire and I on the efforts that are being made at the diplomatic level to ensure the safety of Michael(Fr. Sinnot)  Earlier in the week the Ambassador met and spoke with the Columbans in Singalong, Manila.

Sean Martin accompanied me from Ozamis to Pagadian where we met with Pat O’Donoghue (Regional Director, Philippines). There is a local task force working on trying to create channels of communication between Michael and the Columbans and other authorities involved. The local Bishop is the spokesperson for all interested parties and is the main conduit for all communications taking place. I had an opportunity to meet with him today and thank him for the trojan efforts he is making for the safe return of Michael. The Bishop is the only one to make any public statements on the situation and all others have been asked to refrain from making public comments as there is a real danger of creating confusion and further danger for Michael. more (I am not sure of the exact date on this)
