Gunmen in massacre seek MILF help—military

SHARIFF AGUAK, Maguindanao—The armed men who were behind the Maguindanao massacre has gone to Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) areas to ask the rebel group’s help, the military said Monday.

Brigadier General Raymundo Ferrer, chief of the eastern Mindanao command and military-in-charge in Maguindanao under martial law, said massacre perpetrators sought the help the MILF to launch offensives against police and government soldiers who have taken over the province.

Ferrer said the estimated 2,000 to 3,000 militiamen of the Ampatuans have relatives in the MILF.
