CAFGUs corner Basilan jail escapees

Zamboanga City (15 December) — Members of Civilian Auxiliary Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) under the 1st Marine Brigade Commander BGen Eugenio Clemen AFP in Basilan cornered 2 of the escapees of the Basilan jail break incident at midnight of 14 December 2009 at Brgy Calvario, Isabela City, Basilan Province.

The CAFGUs were able to shoot one of the escapees identified as Nasiral Baliyung, a member of the MILF with P250-thousand reward on his head while he was trying to flee from the CAFGU troopers.

The other fugitive identified as John Baylon surrendered to the CAFGU troops as he realized that he has no where to run due to the intensified man-hunt operations against him among other escapees.

Lt Colonel Gamal S Hayudini PAF, Commander of the 4th Civil Relations Group, Civil Relations Service AFP lauded the accomplishment of the CAFGUs for their relentless efforts in the pursuit operation that led to the recapture of one of the escapees.

The recent success of our troopers is a clear indication that the AFP, PNP, and CAFGUs are swift and prompt in bringing back the criminals to the hands of justice so that they will not be able to create hostilities and further damage to the lives of the innocent civilians, the official added.

“This incident must also serve as an eye opener to the other escapees because the man-hunt operation against them is unstoppable and that the government forces are patrolling 24/7 in all areas so that the other criminals will be recaptured dead or alive.”
