Gunmen kidnap 4 persons, ambush troops in Maguindanao

MANILA, Philippines—Gunmen kidnapped four persons and ambushed troops in separate attacks in Maguindanao province, where 57 people were massacred last month, officials said Tuesday.

The two incidents took place Monday as security forces sought to quell a rebellion led by the powerful Ampatuan clan blamed for the election-related massacre.

The province remained under a state of emergency despite the lifting of martial law after eight days on Saturday.
