COTABATO CITY, Philippines—Instead of registering more new voters in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, the Commission on Elections should clean up the region’s list of voters to ensure fraud-free elections next year, acting ARMM Governor Ansaruddin Adiong said Saturday.

Adiong, in a letter addressed to Comelec Chairman Jose Melo on Friday, said ARMM leaders were signifying their “strongest collective opposition” to the extension of voter registration in the region, which was notorious in the past for cheating in favor of the administration.

Copies of the letter were released to the media along with a press statement.

“The continuing registration has been in place in the region for a long period of time sufficient enough to allow legitimate voters to register,” Adiong said.
