AFP celebrates 74th anniversary

Zamboanga City (21 December) — The Armed Forces of the Philippines celebrates today, 21 December 2009, its seventy four (74) years of existence in the service of their country and the people.

The Western Mindanao Command under the leadership of LtGen Benjamin D Dolorfino AFP will celebrate the anniversary in a simple and austere but meaningful celebration.

Lieutenant Colonel Gamal S Hayudini PAF, Group Commander of the 4th Civil Relations Group, Civil Relations Service, Armed Forces of the Philippines said that the AFP anniversary celebration is focused on the government’s thrust to nation building.

WesMinCom’s activities for the celebration will start with a field mass at 6:30 o’clock in the morning to be held at WMC grandstand and be replicated in all WMC camps down to brigade level.

At 8:00 o’clock is flag raising ceremony and will be replicated also in all camps and brigades. It will be during the ceremony that the anniversary message of the AFP Chief of Staff will be read.

Wesmincom is thankful and recognizes the support and cooperation and contribution of local government units (LGUs), non-government organizations (NGO’s), private sectors, different stakeholders and other entities in pursuit of our mandate in achieving law and order in the AOR.

The military’s fight against lawlessness and terrorism, the various civil military operations with mission to bring the government closer to the people have contributed towards nation building.

“To the men and women of AFP, LtGen Dolorfino’s message is to continue in the fight against lawlessness and terrorism to ensure safety of the country and people. Report: blast rocks bridge in Sulu

MANILA, Philippines – Suspected secessionist rebels have bombed and destroyed a bridge in Sulu province this morning, a radio report said.

Quoting a sketchy detail from the military, the report disclosed that government troops from the Western Mindanao Command are still determining the extent of the damage on the blast at the bridge in Indanan, Sulu, around 10:40 a.m. today. click
