Zamboanga Times 01/06/2010

Philippine peacekeepers in Haiti were cited anew by the United Nations for helping ensure stability in the impoverished Caribbean country.

The Filipino peacekeepers also received UN medals in ceremonies in Port-Au-Prince at year’s end, according to the Philippine mission to the United Nations in New York.

Under Army Lt. Col. Lope Dagoy, the 10th Philippine Contingent also received special mention for undertaking six humanitarian assistance projects and initiating regular dialogues with the local population to explain the mandate of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).

Ambassador Hedi Annabi, Special Representative of the Secretary General and head of MINUSTAH, led UN officials in giving the recognition. Philippine officials at the UN in New York were also in the ceremonies.
