Adel Antonino has resigned from the peace panel representing the local government unit and business sectors due to frustration and disgust over the manner the government undertakes the peace process specifically in the conduct of consultations with different stakeholders in Mindanao.

This was bared by former South Cotabato Congresswoman Luwalhati Antonino during a recent visit to Zamboanga together with Liberal Party Vice Presidential bet Sen. Mar Roxas.

“Yes, Adel has been appointed not because he is from Gen. Santos but he has more or less helped the government in formulating some development ideas and has been a mayor and developed SOCSARGEN. I think the president wanted to get some insights or inputs from Adel but then again I think he got frustrated kasi may mga pag-uusapan na he feels important and he is completely disregarded, you know, waylaid, kaya nagresign na lang siya,” the former congresswoman, who, together with the late Cong. Maria Clara Lobregat and former General Santos Cong. Daisy Avance Fuentes composed the Tres Marias that led the struggle against the inclusion of numerous areas in Mindanao in the interim peace agreement between the government and the Moro National Liberation Front in the 1990’s.

With Antonino’s resignation, the government peace panel is down to four—Ambassador Rafael Seguis as panel chairman; Robert Adamat representing the indigenous sector; Nasser Pangandaman representing the Muslim sector and Antonio Cabili representing the Christian sector chairman.
