ZAMBOANGA CITY — The military has launched a search-and-rescue operation for two Chinese nationals held in captivity in the island-province of Basilan for more than two months now.

This after the crisis management committee led by local government official confirmed that negotiations with the captors, believed to have ties with the Abu Sayyaf, bogged down this week.

The captors have stopped communicating with the employers of the Chinese nationals, said Vice-Governor Al-rasheed Sakalahul, who heads the committee.

“So far, there is no substantial development in our operation,” he told BusinessWorld.
