A government soldier was killed Tuesday while eight others were wounded in an ambush staged by a still unidentified armed group in the southern Philippine province of Basilan, a military official said.

The troops, all from the Army’s 32nd Infantry Battalion, were on board a military truck on its way from an inspection site when attacked at Barangay Libog in Sumisip town, according to Lt. Gen. Ben Dolorfino, commander of the Armed Forces’ Western Mindanao Command.
